Salivary Replacement Substances.
When the saliva stimulating substances are inadequate to deal with complaints of mouth
dry, then use saliva substitute substances (Amerongan, 1991; Kidd and
Bechal, 1992). Various requirements for these substances as are reologis, taste
fun, the influence of the buffer, increased remineralization and inhibits
demineralization, inhibit bacterial growth and good wetting properties
(Amerongan, 1991). Saliva substitute is available in liquid form, spray and
suction tablets (Kidd and Bechal, 1992).
VA Oralube, liquid form, pH 7, a saliva substitute for substance
stimulate electrolyte viscosity and whole saliva. Also used are also
Hypromellose, ph 8 (Amerongan, 1991; Kidd and Bechal, 1992; Glass et al, 1984).
Salivary orthana, the form of spray, pH 7, containing mucin to obtain
viscosity. Also used Glandosan, pH 5.1, but not recommended for
patients who still have teeth (Kidd and Bechal, 1992).
Polyox tablets used suction, useful as a saliva substitute
and is also beneficial in mencekatkan dentures (Kidd and Bechal, 1992).
